During the May 2024 State of Play stream, PlayStation revealed a new dark fantasy action-RPG called Ballad of Antara. It is a brand-new IP being developed by Tipsworks Studio and published by Infold Games. While the reveal included a cinematic trailer, it included gameplay and looks to share similarities with the Soulslike genre. It will launch sometime in 2025.
Ballad of Antara revolves around two parallel worlds, a normal world and an alternate version called Para where supernatural powers are found. It is said to weave two fates and multiple playable characters in its story. Each region throughout the game will have variations based on which version of the world you’re navigating.
The multiple characters you play as are called Emissaries. And in the official PlayStation Blog, studio head Yang Yang said, “Finding and rallying these Emissaries across the world, strengthening your forces, and discovering the truth behind the calamity of this land, are your primary goals in Ballad of Antara. The young girl shown at the end of our reveal trailer is the key to this endeavor. You will help her undo the devastation done to this desolate world through trials, twists, and confrontation, and witness her growth along the way.”
Ballad of Antara will have cooperative multiplayer that supports up to three players and will let you complete story quests and explore dungeons together. Post-launch support is planned and will include new Emissaries, regions, and more story content. A beta test will be coming in the future, but there is no date on that quite yet.
