We’ve at last gotten a proper look at Alan Wake 2’s first major DLC. At Summer Game Fest, Remedy made an appearance to show off Night Springs. Even better, it releases tomorrow.
Night Springs is technically about Alan Wake himself, following him as he writes the scripts for the in-universe TV show, Night Springs…and deals with their impact on both his reality in the Dark Place, and the real world. But you’re not playing as Alan this time: you’ll be playing as a number of different characters across three different episodes, all of whom you should recognize…sort of. Though the people you’re playing as may look familiar, you’re actually playing Night Springs versions of them, which might present a new twist on people you thought you knew.
The three characters include The Actor, based on Tim Breaker; The Waitress, based on Oh Deer Diner’s Rose Marigold; and The Sibling, based on Control protagonist Jesse Faden. That last one is a particularly striking twist, and we’ll get to see an alternate version of Jesse search for her brother in Coffee World.
In addition to new story content, a free update on June 8 will add Photo Mode to Alan Wake 2 for all players.
The Night Springs DLC comes with the Expansion Pass for Alan Wake 2, which is included in the digital Deluxe Edition. Standard Edition owners can buy an upgrade to Deluxe for $20, which will also include upcoming DLC The Lake House when it releases in October.
The DLC is also included in two new physical editions of the game announced today, for which pre-orders will start on June 8. The physical deluxe edition and the limited collector’s edition will include not just the game and DLC, but a number of bonuses including special skins for Saga and Alan.
It should be no surprise that Night Springs made an appearance today, as Remedy has been teasing the DLC for weeks, including changing its official Twitter/X account name to “Poison Pill Entertainment” and posting the following retro TV logo:

We’ve known Alan Wake 2 would be getting DLC for a while now, and there’s more on the way. Remedy has stated that a second DLC, The Lakehouse, is planned for October. We don’t know much about it, beyond this cryptic bit of official messaging:
“The Lake House is a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organization to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong. Explore the Lake House and embark on two separate adventures as the realities of Saga Anderson and Alan Wake collide again.”
Despite rumors it sold poorly, Alan Wake 2 was Remedy’s fastest-selling game ever as of February, and the company seems pleased with its success. We gave it a 9/10, calling Alan Wake 2 a “superb survival horror sequel that makes the cult-classic original seem like little more than a rough first draft by comparison.”
