On Sunday Spain defeated England 2-1 to seize the Euro 2024 match.
That victory has now spilled over to the Formula 1 world.
Thursday was media day on the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the drivers and groups arriving within the paddock in Budapest for his or her media duties. As every driver arrived, they discovered a personalised parking house ready for them.
However British driver Lando Norris — who attended the final — discovered a hand-written message on his placard, referencing the rating of the Final with the message “Viva Espana:”
With two Spanish drivers on the grid, there have been a number of suspects. One of these drivers, Fernando Alonso, was a part of the FIA Press Conference and was playfully questioned concerning the message.
But Alonso deflected blame, pointing the finger elsewhere. “Not me. No, not me,” stated Alonso. “There is one other Spanish driver, so yeah. Not me, for certain.”
Moments later, the gig was up.
That it was Carlos Sainz Jr. shouldn’t be a shock, given the years Norris and Sainz spent collectively at McLaren. The two had been teammates for 2 years at McLaren, and “Carlando” stays a favourite pairing amongst F1 followers.
Sainz even referenced that nickname through the British Grand Prix:
That friendship may need taken a again seat through the Euros, nevertheless.
