Rumours about an Elden Ring movie or TV show have just got a lot louder as George R.R. Martin has hinted that he’s personally involved.
There’ve been video game movies around for over three decades now but it’s strange to think that it’s Sonic The Hedgehog, of all things, that finally and both (relatively) high quality and authentic to the original games.
It’s the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and TV shows such as The Last Of Us and Fallout which, really caught Hollywood’s interest though and now every major new game seems to have a movie rumour attached to it… including the seemingly unfilmable Elden Ring – which creator Hidetaka Miyazaki was only last week hinting would get a live action adaptation.
And now Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin is doing the same, in what is the world’s least subtle clue that he knows about it and is probably involved.
Martin used a new blog entry to talk about how Elden Ring recently won the Nebula Award for Game Writing. Martin collaborated on the game with Miyazaki to create the ‘worldbuilding’ but it’s never been entirely clear what exactly he did.
It’s not thought he wrote any of the text in the game but instead just came up with the background lore. Although it’s difficult to tell because his description of the process has always been vague, and the end result doesn’t feel any different than any other FromSoftware game.
In any case, he congratulated From on the award and then made then added the following paragraph to his blog:
‘Oh, and about these rumours you might have heard a few characteristic movie or tv sequence primarily based on Elden Ring… I’ve nothing to say. Not a phrase, nope, not a factor, I do know nothing, you by no means heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What hearsay?’
The rumours solely appeared on the finish of final week, and weren’t that broadly reported, so the truth that he even knew about them is suspicious.
He’s clearly implying he is aware of about no matter is happening and is actively concerned. Martin has had little or no expertise with motion pictures throughout his profession however has been working in TV for the reason that early 80s, so on that foundation it’s more likely he’d be instantly concerned in an Elden Ring TV present.
If he’s hinting about it this overtly it additionally suggests some type of official announcement could be imminent, which might be helpful as there are large inquiries to reply on the way you’d adapt a sport with such free and ambiguous storytelling as Elden Ring.
The solely downside is that, as followers of his novels will attest, Martin has a behavior of speaking about his work properly upfront of it ever really showing, so it may very well be an extended anticipate an Elden Ring adaptation.
