The creator behind Metal Gear Solid is teasing an look at this yr’s Tokyo Game Show, however will he present greater than Death Stranding 2?

After backing out of Gamescom, Sony has revealed it will have a presence at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in September.

This will be the first time since 2019 that PlayStation have had a major presence at the event, which runs from September 26-29. Sony did make an appearance at the show last year, but it only showed off smaller indie titles.

This year’s show, which is described as the ‘largest ever’, with 3,190 exhibit booths, will also feature Square Enix, Sega, Capcom, Konami, Bandai Namco, THQ Nordic, and many others. Xbox will not be at the event, while Nintendo is only listed under the ‘business meeting area’ section.

Following the announcement, Hideo Kojima teased he’ll make an appearance by sharing the Tokyo Game Show poster on Twitter – which almost guarantees Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, set to be released next year, will be shown in some capacity.

If Kojima does appear, there’s a chance he could also give an update on other announced projects too. The absence of Xbox means his collaboration with Jordan Peele, titled OD, will probably not be shown, but his spiritual successor to Metal Gear, which was vaguely announced in January by PlayStation, could be teased again in some capacity.

Earlier this year, Kojima said the action espionage title, referred to as Physint, will enter full production after Death Stranding 2 launches in 2025. He described the project as both a game and a movie, which will ‘transcend the barriers between film and video games’.

Death Stranding 2, meanwhile, still doesn’t have an exact release date, so this might be the time where it is locked in for a specific time in 2025.

As for what else Sony could show, Concord and Astro Bot will be released by this point, so the only other contenders are Lego Horizon Adventures or the Until Dawn remaster – unless it has another surprise in store.

Outside of Sony’s wheelhouse, other games likely to be shown include Metaphor: ReFantazio and Monster Hunter Wilds, while Capcom might also give some sort of update on Resident Evil 9.

Before the Tokyo Game Show, the next big gaming convention is Gamescom in Germany, which runs from August 21-25.
