There will “by no means” be one other Back to the Future… something, its screenwriter has insisted.
Speculation ramped up after the co-creators of Cobra Kai, the TV sequence follow-up to the Karate Kid films, mentioned a potential Back to the Future TV sequence.
But Bob Gale, one of many screenwriters of the Robert Zemeckis-directed Back to the Future trilogy, has insisted there isn’t any future for the franchise.
“I do not know why they hold speaking about that!” he instructed People. “I imply, do they assume that if they are saying it sufficient occasions, we’ll really do it?”
“I imply, it is like they know in each interview folks say, ‘Oh Bob, when is there going to be a Back to the Future 4?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a derivative?’ Never. It’s simply advantageous the way in which it’s. It’s not good, however as Bob Zemeckis used to say, ‘It’s good sufficient.’ ”
Of course, that is Bob Gale speaking right here, and the may of Hollywood, if it was so inclined, would most likely have the ultimate say had been it to greenlight a Back to the Future revival. But govt producer Steven Spielberg would want to provide it a thumbs up, and in accordance with Gale, that’s unlikely.
“If the juggernaut of company America or company worldwide mishigas says, ‘If you do not conform to this, we’ll kill your youngsters,’ alright, effectively, no, we do not need our kids killed,’ ” he joked.
“But Steven Spielberg, after all, he is received to log out on it too. And Steven, similar to Steven will not enable one other E.T., he completely respects the truth that we do not need any extra Back to the Future. He will get it and at all times stood behind that. And thanks, Steven.”
Gale’s feedback listed below are consistent with his earlier responses to questions round a possible Back to the Future revival. In February, Gale issued a harsh message for followers hoping for a Back to the Future 4: “People at all times say, ‘When are you going to do Back to the Future 4?’ And we are saying, ‘F**ok you.’ “
The unique arrived in 1985 and sees highschool pupil Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) by accident despatched again in time by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). It went on to develop into probably the most iconic sci-fi movies of all time, and spawned two sequels.
