Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest officially kicks off later this week, in what might be a quieter year than usual for the annual event.
While there’re a number of presentations which fall under the Summer Game Fest umbrella, including Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase and Ubisoft Forward, everything kicks off with an extended event hosted by The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley.
This year’s livestream is the fifth since it started in 2020 and is set to feature a bunch of new game announcements, along with updates for previously revealed titles. So what can you expect to see? Here’s all the confirmed, rumoured, and likely candidates for the main show.
What has been confirmed for Summer Game Fest 2024?
During a Twitch Q&A on Sunday (June 2), Geoff Keighley confirmed a number of titles for the roughly two-hour long show. Following its breakout success in January, there will be an update on Palworld in some capacity, which might be related to the planned PvP mode.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, the upcoming role-player from the team behind Persona, will also be shown. The game, which is set in a medieval fantasy world, is set to be released on October 16 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
Following the gameplay trailer in Sony’s State Of Play, Capcom will offer another look at Monster Hunter Wilds. This is the first mainline entry in the series since 2021’s Monster Hunter Rise, and is set to be released next year.
2K has also announced it will reveal ‘the next iteration in one of 2K’s biggest and most beloved franchises’ at the showcase – which could be anything from Mafia 4 to Borderlands 4 or the next Bioshock.
Other titles confirmed to appear include Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero, VR game Batman: Arkham Shadow, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, The First Descendant, Honkai Star Rail, and the Among Us animated series.
Plenty more games are expected from other confirmed partners, which includes Epic Games, EA, Sega, Thunderful, and others.
What games won’t be at Summer Game Fest 2024?
In the same Twitch Q&A, Keighley also listed a number of games that definitely won’t be featured, namely Kingdom Hearts 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Wolf Among Us 2, and a new trailer for GTA 6.
Asked about the possibility of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Keighley seemed doubtful, without explicitly ruling it out: ‘I think it’s going to be a while.’
Generally, Keighley explained that the show will primarily be focused on updates of existing games over new titles, but there will be some things which haven’t been announced before.
What games are rumoured for Summer Game Fest 2024?
Following the recent State Of Play, reliable leaker Midori claimed more games from Sony studios will be shown at Summer Game Fest. While exact details are unknown, there’s been a long-running rumour of a collaboration between Lego and Horizon Zero Dawn, which has still yet to be announced.
This also might be the place for another look at Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, considering Keighley’s long-standing friendship with creator Hideo Kojima.
Visions Of Mana, which was announced back in 2021, is also rumoured to appear at some point during Summer Game Fest – although it might also feature at the Xbox Games Showcase, as it appeared in a Xbox presentation earlier this year.
Elsewhere on the Square Enix front, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake is also a possibility, although Midori has claimed it will show up at a Nintendo Direct. (Since it doesn’t yet have a date, it’s currently unclear whether the Nintendo Direct counts as part of Summer Game Fest or not.)
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is also expected to be shown in full (EA is also confirmed to be part of the event), while recent rumblings about a new shooter from Valve named Deadlock has led to speculation of a potential reveal at Summer Game Fest.
You’ll be able to stream Summer Game Fest on YouTube and Twitch from Friday June 7 at 10pm BST in the UK, which translates to 2pm PT and 5pm ET in the US.
