The NHRA put out an announcement on the incident
“During the primary spherical of Funny Car eliminations on the PlayNHRA Virginia Nationals on Sunday at Virginia Motorsports Park, John Force’s Funny Car suffered an engine explosion on the end line after which crossed the centerline, hanging each guard partitions earlier than coming to a cease,” the group mentioned.

Force, 75, is a 16-time NHRA champion and a 22-time champion as a racing crew proprietor. He received 10 straight titles as a driver from 1993 to 2002.
Force received the 156th race of his profession in April.
