Fans are urging each other not to buy Rainbow Six Siege’s new monthly membership plan, while criticising the lack of content in the latest update.

Ubisoft has kept its live service shooter Rainbow Six Siege running for nine years and it still averages tens of thousands of players a day on PC alone, while churning out four updates each year with new maps and skins.

However, the latest update, Operation New Blood, hasn’t impressed fans and to make things worse Ubisoft will soon be pushing a new $10 (£8) monthly membership that hands out extra perks.

This has sparked a call to boycott the membership plan before it’s even out, as the announcement trailer has also been disliked 22,000 times, compared to its 9,000 likes.

The new update doesn’t include a new operator, which is usually almost always the case, but adds a remaster of the already existing Recruit operator. Operation New Blood also doesn’t come with a new map, much to fans’ disappointment.

‘This could easily be mistaken for a week one patch note for any other game,’ says Bohgus on YouTube.

‘To clarify we got no new operator, no new map, and a membership system. Good work Ubisoft, you guys really take the cake for ruining every single accomplishment you ever have,’ Ryan says.

Over on Reddit, a post that has been upvoted over 3,000 times is asking Siege fans to boycott the membership, saying:

‘Everyone knows the story of how there has been less content each and every coming year, this is a Trojan Horse of content.

‘I call for all Rainbow Six players, all those who love this unique game and want to keep it alive, to not fall into this scheme and keep your money in your pocket for this one time. DO NOT BUY the membership.’

The membership, called R6 Membership, is rolling out June 28 and offers its subscribers exclusive content drops each month, such as battle pass access, 10 battle levels, one bravo pack, one legendary item, and one epic bundle.

Many already assume that content is being withheld or diverted from the free update to make the paid-for membership look more tempting, which is something Ubisoft is going to have to quickly refute, in order to keep fans onside.
